Battle of the Pacific
Tasmanian chefs win international culinary challenge
Sister properties Wrest Point and Country Club showcased the best of Tasmanian culinary expertise last week when they competed in the Battle of the Pacific chefs competition run by the Australian Culinary Federation.
Taking on teams from New Zealand, Fiji and around Australia, the Wrest Point and Country Club teams performed very well at the Melbourne-based competition.
The Wrest Point chefs in Team Tasmania came first overall, closely followed by Country Club who placed third overall and received a silver medal for their dishes.
Representing “Country Club” were Rachael Crafar, Christopher Wright, Adam Lockhart and Aleksander MacKowski.
Representing Wrest Point in “Team Tasmania” were Neil Li and Robin Kelly.
Teams had to prepare a two-course menu of an entrée and main. They had five hours to put together the dishes and serve 44 people.
The competition tests chefs under pressure, allows them opportunities to network and challenge their culinary skills.
