Terrace wins wine awards

Launceston’s Terrace Restaurant at Country Club has won two awards at Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards held in Sydney overnight.

At the annual celebration of the nation’s best Sommeliers and their carefully curated wine lists, Terrace Restaurant took out the awards for Tasmania’s Best Wine List ahead of Me Wah Launceston and Black Cow Bistro, and Best Listing of Tasmanian Wines ahead of Source at MONA and Stillwater.

The awards recognise and reward wine lists that elevate the dining experience; scoring on content, balance, suitability to venue, presentation, and pricing.

In announcing the winners, the panel of expert judges from Australia and around the world praised the diversity of the list.

“The list does great justice to the great array of fine wine emerging from Tasmania, with halcyon producers set alongside those that have brought fame to the Apple Isle,” they said.

“It’s great to see such focus on the local wine scene.

“The beauty of this list lies in the celebration of wines from across the island of Tasmania…the collection complements the produce of local farmers.”

Country Club General Manager Ross Hannah and Food & Beverage Manager Robyn McInerney accepted the awards.

“The Tasmanian wine industry produces world-class wines of exceptional quality, making our job a lot easier,” McInerney said.

“But in order to create a wine list of winning standard, you need a committed team, great suppliers, and a talented sommelier.”
